Stuart Farrimond

5 Chapel Way, Coppull, Chorley, Lancashire, PR7 4QN

07901 653302

Stuart grew up in Lancashire with a railway line at the bottom of his garden where his love of steam trains started, seeing Black 5`s, Jubilees, 8F's, 9F 2-10-0's go past and even 4468 Mallard on one of its last runs back to Yorkshire.

After attending Accrington Grammar school, he joined the Lancashire Constabulary Cadets aged 16 and in 1968 was appointed a Police Constable. After 26 years’ service, he retired from the Greater Manchester Police Force as a Custody Sergeant in 1993.

In 1996 the family moved down to Broadway where he and his wife Karen were Wardens and managed the Leedons Park Homes and Caravan estate, which can be seen from the GWSR on the left from the embankment going into our new Station.

Four years later the family moved to a lovely cottage in Hampton near Evesham and he became a Funeral operative for local undertakers. He had visited the GWSR since 1997, and he encouraged his son Andrew to join the Loco dept for his schools DOE Silver Award project and they both worked on the 2807 Project from 1997.

Stuart has run the fundraising effort for 25 years along with his wife Karen. They have been stalwart supporters of our Locomotive on the sales stand, working tirelessly at Galas with raffles, 100 club and Pennies appeal, all helping to raise money every year.

He is a Director of CSPL and a Trustee of 2807 FLA , and now operates in retirement from their new home in Coppull, back in the Red Rose county of Lancashire, where the West Coast Mainline runs past at the bottom of their garden. Once again, Trains are still at the forefront of their life.
